Stache Dash 2013

COMMON GROUNDS presents:

The 3rd Annual CG STACHE DASH!

What is it?

The Stache Dash is a no holds barred, bicycle street race.

In the spirit of all the Bicycle Couriers before us, an ‘Alley Cat Race,’ as these types of races are widely known, is a test of how well you know your city and how quickly you can get from place to place.

The money collected for this race will go to benefit Project Rwanda - a philanthropy that builds wooden cart bicycles so that Cooperative Coffee Farmers can transport their beans to a fair market.

Race winners receive Prizes from Sponsors: Fast Folks (ATX), Common Grounds, and more.

All Skill/Race/knowledge levels accepted!

Registration

Registration begins at 5pm on Saturday, April 27th.

Bring $5 for entry and a photo ID card.

Release Flyers will be Mandatory for entry.

What do I need on Race Day?

- Knowledge of WacoTown

- A Bicycle (Fixie/Single speed preferred)

- A Helmet (optional, but encouraged)

- Bike Lights**

- A Cell Phone with Texting and Photo capabilities

**(if the sun sets early, Waco City Law commands Bike lights on all Bicycles)

How it Works

This race is Time-trialed, and you will have 45 minutes to reach as many locations as possible.  But, if you’re late… you’re FIRED! and you lose major points…

How do I know where to go?

Before the race begins, you will receive an envelope which holds the Manifest of all the locations we are expecting you to know in our great city of Waco, TX.

When we say “GO!,” you may open your manifest and race away! You’ll have to plan your route on the fly.

But…

Don’t get too set in your route, You may receive a bonus location mid-way through…

What do I do there?

At each manifest location, You will snap a single photo of yourself with your manifest next to the Locations’ centerpiece/sign, text that image to the Common Grounds Race Facilitator, and get on to the next spot!

Oh, did we mention there may be tasks at different locations? Though not all of them are mandatory, you get bonus points for participating.

And of course,

The choice of route is completely up to you.

Thrasher Urban Cycling & Waco Longboarding Club

Hold on to your helmets, the Riverside Rally Alleycat race and the Gnarathon are back! Never heard of these events? Check them out below!

Thrasher Urban Cycling hosted the Riverside Rally Alleycat race on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013. If you missed it, don’t worry – they host one every month. The Next one is scheduled for this coming weekend: Saturday, February 15th at 10am.

Alleycat races originated in New York and Los Angeles by bike messengers; the goal is to know the city like the back of your hand and be able to get from checkpoint to checkpoint quicker and more efficiently than the rest.

In November of 2012, Stephen Beaty and Daniel Porter founded Thrasher Urban Cycling , so its still relatively new. Anyone is welcome to join. If interested, just show up to one of their weekly social rides.

There is not a website for the group yet, but feel free to check out their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/ThrasherUrbanCycling for details on their weekly rides.

The Waco Longboarding Club was founded back in 2010, and every year they host the Gnarathon, an intense downhill race through Cameron Park. It’s scheduled for Sunday, April 7, 2013.  Practice may begin at 9am, and the race begins at 10 am. Everyone is welcome.

Check out their Facebook page or a member if interested in joining the group.

Regular meetings are held Monday nights at 8:30 p.m. at S. Second St. & Daughtrey Ave., and also on Friday afternoons in Cameron Park. As with any Waco Longboardng Club event, a helmet and gloves are required.

Check this website for Waco Longboarding Club for more information: http://www.wacolongboardclub.com/index.html

CG Halloween Night Alley Cat Bike Race

We have a very special event happening at Common Grounds this Halloween Eve!!

As you may know, CG and our friends over at Bicycles Outback host the only Alleycat Races in Waco; and, with every race, we try to help out some kind of organization or philanthropy that we desire to support (i.e. Project Rwanda).  Well, this go round’ we are doing something special to support a hometown need.

Last Spring, a Truett Seminary student named Isa Torres was nearly fatally injured on his bicycle on University Parks, just off of campus, while riding back from the Baylor Marina Bike Shop. Isa’s hospital bills have been outrageous, so ALL of the proceeds from the Ghouls & Gears Bike Race on October 31, 2012 will go to support Isa and help pay some of his bills.

Here are the Details!!

WHO: All you Fixed-Gear/NonFixedGear Hipsters & ALL your friends!
WHAT: A truly terrifying no-rules Alleycat Night Race with Chilling Challenges along the way
WHEN: Wednesday, October 31, 2012 (Halloween) - Registration comes to pass from (7:30p-8:30)
WHERE: Common Grounds Backyard
WHY: B/c it’s Halloween and we want to have fun!!

WHAT ELSE: In order to be a part of the race, entry fee is $5 and you MUST be wearing a legitimate Halloween Costume!  (Fixies/single gears NOT required)

Want to go ahead and preregister and pay?  Check out http://www.commongroundswaco.eventbrite.com
